WELCOME TO OLIVER MMA

Oliver Mixed Martial Arts and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy is one of the leading MMA clubs in New Zealand, with training facilities in Auckland (West, South and the North Shore), Tauranga and in Wellington.

We have a dedicated team of trainers that teach Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) which is a combination of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), Boxing, Kick Boxing, Muay Thai and Wrestling. We also have programs that deal with strength conditioning and weight loss.

We have a top level competition team, we have a womens squad and have children’s classes from 4 years up!

BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU

BJJ is the fastest growing and the most effective martial art in the world.  Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art, combat sport, and a self defence system that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. The art was derived from the Japanese martial art of Kodokan judo in the early 20th century, which was itself developed from a number of schools (or Ryu) of Japanese jujutsu in the 19th century.

It teaches that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant by using leverage and proper technique – most notably by applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat the other person.

We also have special womens only classes in some gyms!

MUAY THAI / KICKBOXING

Muay Thai is the traditional combat sport originating in Thailand, this art uses stand up striking techniques, kicking and punching along with the use of elbows and knees. The art also has various clinching techniques and takedowns. Oliver MMA has New Zealand’s premier Muay Thai training coaches in Lollo Heimuli, training many of New Zealand’s top kick boxers and mma fighters for over 20 years.

The word ‘Muay’ comes from the ‘Sanskrit mavya which means ‘to bind together’ Muay Thai is referred to as the art of eight limbs or the science of eight limbs, with the use of punches, kicks, elbows and knees.

This coupled with effective takedowns and BJJ make Oliver MMA New Zealand’s leading Muay Thai and MMA gyms.
